Musée de l’Hospice Comtesse in Lille

Do you like to stroll through the streets of Old Lille and admire the architecture?

Visit the musée de l’Hospice Comtesse, a 15-minute drive from the Hôtel Morphée. It is located in the heart of Old Lille, at the corner of Rue de la Monnaie and Rue Comtesse. It occupies a medieval hospital founded in 1237 by Countess Jeanne de Flandre.

Built in a wing of her own palace, the hospital was later used by the community of the Augustinian sisters. It remained in use until 1939 and the property was then converted into a museum in 1962.

A true architectural and artistic gem

The museum includes buildings dating from the 15th to 18th centuries such as the former hospital ward, the convent buildings and a chapel that once belonged to nuns. The buildings are arranged around two courtyards and a garden where medicinal plants were cultivated.

A visit to the musée de l’Hospice Comtesse allows you to admire a collection of tapestries, sculptures and porcelain from the 17th century Flemish convent.
