The history of the Lille Opera
The Lille Opera is an old theater built in 1788, with a neo-Classically inspiration.Destroyed in 1903 by fire, the city launched a contest for the construction of a new building.
The famous architect Louis-Marie Cordonnier wins. He then started the construction of the "Grand Théâtre".
Following the German occupation during the First World War, it was in 1923 that the Grand Théâtre finally gave its " French première".
In 1998, the city of Lille decided to modernize the opera.
