The new museum of the Institut Pasteur
Almost a year and a half ago, the Pasteur Institute Museum was renovated, and it is really worth a visit!
Now housed in the former apartments of Albert Calmette, one of the Institute's founding fathers, and located along Boulevard Louis XIV, this museum is at once scientific, artistic and historical. Past, present and future are represented in an admirable and poetic scenography, between a curiosity cabinet, a period laboratory and ultra-modern digital installations.
Places with a rich history...
It was within these walls that Calmette and Guérin discovered BCG, the tuberculosis vaccine. This essential vaccine bears their names: BCG stands for Bacille Calmette-Guérin. The original strains are also presented in the museum's permanent collection. For his part, Louis Pasteur's attachment to the city of Lille dates back to the middle of the 19th century: he discovered and deciphered alcoholic fermentation at the Faculty of Sciences in Lille, where he was dean in 1854.
