The citadel of Lille and its parkThis 17th century military structure was designed by order of Louis XIV to defend the city.
Vauban, the designer of this building, called it "the queen of the citadels".
Its monumental construction is remarkable for its dimensions and the quality of its well-preserved architecture. Classified as a historic monument in its entirety since 2012, this citadel has the particularity of being the matrix of most of the other citadels designed by Vauban.
The Citadel Park110 hectares surround the building, which has become over time a real refuge for flora and fauna. Unsuspected varieties have found their place there.
Gardeners maintain the park's biodiversity and have chosen to theme the sites to allow both ordinary and remarkable species to flourish. You can see kingfishers, for example.
This park is also an ideal place to practice sportsYou can find a large number of sporting activities:
Volleyball, paddle, rowing, canoeing, jogging, cycling, fitness, a healthy course...
