The must-see places in Lille during a weekend

You'll surely find points of interest to spend a great weekend in any season and a great desire to visit again the city!

The heart of the city, the Grand'Place,
now called the Place du Général de Gaulle, where you will discover
The large fountain (15.5m high) highlighting the column of the Goddess, a superb bronze created by Théophile Bra, set on a granite column.
If you are sensitive to architecture, take the time to admire the buildings on this same square, in particular the Théâtre du Nord, built in the 18th century by Thomas-Joseph Gombert in a classical French style that contrasts with the Flemish style.
Don't leave the Grand Place without taking the time to enjoy a local beer on one of the many beer terrace that occupy the square.
Don't miss the Vieille Bourse, built in 1652 by Julien Destrée, one of the city's most beautiful monuments consisting of 24 identical houses surrounding a cloister. Visits start from 1 pm but in the meantime, look up and see the details of the exterior facades.
If you like to bargain, in the courtyard, you will find the second-hand booksellers and antique dealers who exhibit there.
Continue your exploration of the old Lille by going to the Opera.

Another beautiful historical building with monumental architecture on the Place du Théâtre. Don't hesitate to book for an unforgettable evening www.opera-lille.fr

Continue your stroll through the streets of Vieux-Lille and discover the typical soul of this surprising and beautiful city with its cobbled streets, its shops and its tempting businesses such as the oldest pastry shop in Lille, the Méert pastry shop in rue Esquermoise, where you won't be able to resist the mythical vanilla-filled waffle!

Place aux oignons, rue des Vieux Murs, rue de la Monnaie, place Louise de Bettignies and rue de Gand, take your time, it's the weekend and maybe time for a lunch or a dinner in one of the famous estaminets that line these streets. I
f you are a fan of typical places to eat, the estaminet is the name used for the small restaurants typical of Northern France, between bistros and taverns you will taste dishes 100% Ch'tis: welsh, chips, Flemish carbonnade or chicken with maroilles, accompanied by a good beer ... if you are a fan!
The Palais des Beaux-Arts of Lille, as well as the prefecture of the North are also very beautiful buildings in front of which you must pass to admire the large square and the outside amphitheatre marked with a large compass rose.
The Palais des Beaux-Arts is a museum of art and antiques that houses some very fine classical works, and is one of the largest museums in France. You should visit it in particular to discover the temporary exhibition on Goya (until 14 February 2022).

To get an overall view of this amazing city, you have to climb the steps of the 104 m high Lille Belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 360° view is breathtaking! The belfry has a lift of course and can be visited every day.

To fully enjoy Lille, go to the Wazemmes market, one of the biggest markets in Europe, to discover fresh and local products or to the smaller and quieter Vieux-Lille market.

Enjoy the banks of the quai de Wault, one of the old ports of Lille, to walk around and go to the Citadelle of Lille, the green lung of the city, a very beautiful and large park of 110 hectares surrounding a fortress of the XVIIIth century where you can walk and visit the Zoo of Lille before going to settle in one of the restaurants or the bars which are installed in the park.

The weekend is coming to an end and if you haven't had time to do everything, the whole team of the Morphée hotel would be delighted to welcome you back to discover Lille any other time in the year!
